Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
My Local First is operated by Barry Ashley trading as My Local First. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal information when you use the My Local First website, mobile app, loyalty scheme and related services.
Who we are
The data controller is Barry Ashley trading as My Local First.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use My Local First, we may collect your name, email address, username and authentication information, telephone number where provided, postcode where provided, account identifiers, loyalty points and rewards activity, QR or account identifiers used to credit points, Pay It Forward claim information, business registration information, and information you send when contacting us. We may also collect limited technical information needed to operate and secure the website and app, such as device, browser, IP address and security logs where generated by our services.
How we use your information
We use personal information to create and manage accounts; provide the loyalty scheme; record points, rewards and redemptions; provide QR functionality; operate Pay It Forward purchases and claims; review business applications; provide support; prevent misuse, fraud and duplicate claims; maintain security and reliability; comply with legal obligations; and improve My Local First.
Our lawful bases
We process information where necessary to provide a service or perform our agreement with you; to comply with legal obligations; and for legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving My Local First, preventing misuse and supporting participating local businesses, where those interests do not override your rights. Where consent is required, such as for certain direct marketing, we will ask for it and you may withdraw it.
Service messages and marketing
We may send messages needed to operate your account, provide security information, respond to requests or complete a transaction. These are service messages. We will only send electronic marketing where permitted by law, and every marketing message will provide a simple way to opt out. Choosing not to receive marketing does not prevent you from using the loyalty service.
Participating businesses
When you use My Local First with a participating business, information needed to award or redeem points or provide the service may be processed for that transaction. Businesses should receive only information reasonably necessary for that purpose and do not receive unrestricted access to your account information.
Pay It Forward
If you claim an item that has been paid forward, we may record the claim against your account and generate a collection code. This helps reserve the item, maintain accurate availability and reduce duplicate claims. A referral is not required simply to use the My Local First Pay It Forward claim feature.
Who we share information with
We may share information with service providers that help us host, maintain, secure or operate the website, app, accounts and communications; participating businesses where necessary to provide loyalty, reward, purchase or claim functionality; professional advisers where reasonably necessary; and regulators, law enforcement or authorities where required by law. We do not sell personal information.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use necessary cookies and similar technologies for account login, security, shopping and core site functions. Optional analytics and marketing technologies are blocked until you make a choice through our privacy banner. You can accept all, reject non-essential technologies or choose by category, and you can change your choice using the cookie-preferences control. Choices are normally remembered for up to 180 days. Our analytics may include services provided by Automattic or Jetpack; the current categories and available choices are shown in the banner.
International transfers
Some technology providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, we will take reasonable steps to ensure an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism or safeguard applies where required by UK data protection law.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing accounts and rewards, dealing with claims or enquiries, maintaining appropriate transaction and security records, and meeting legal, accounting or regulatory requirements. When information is no longer required, we will delete or anonymise it where appropriate.
Account deletion
You may delete your account through the My Local First app or ask us to delete it. Closing the account removes access to its login, points and rewards. Associated personal information will be deleted or anonymised where appropriate. Limited information may need to be retained where required by law, for accounting or fraud-prevention purposes, or to establish or defend legal claims. Information in backups may remain until the relevant backup is securely overwritten or expires, and it will not be restored for ordinary use.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to be informed; access your personal information; correct inaccurate or incomplete information; request deletion; restrict certain processing; receive certain information in a portable format; and object to certain processing. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw consent.
Your right to object: where we rely on legitimate interests, you may have the right to object. You have an absolute right to object to personal information being used for direct marketing.
To exercise your rights, contact barry@table88.co.uk.
Complaints
If you have concerns, please contact us first so we can try to resolve them. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator.
Children
If we introduce services specifically directed at children, we will review the privacy information and safeguards before doing so.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as My Local First develops or when legal or technical arrangements change. The current version will be published here and the last-updated date changed where appropriate.
